Zafar Salon, Spa and Boutique, a black-owned business, held its grand opening Friday, October 16th, in the Kansas City Power & Light District. Zafar offers services for men and women, including 10 hair-care stations, manicures, pedicures, skin care and massage services. It also features a women’s boutique with casual and professional clothing and swim wear. Zafar is owned by Annette Jones of Kansas City, a licensed cosmetologist.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for me,” Jones said this week. “To be the first salon and spa in the district, that’s going to be awesome in itself.” One day Jones took a nap and dreamed of owning a boutique named Zafar. “In my dream, it was a place that people were flocking to get their hair and nails done,” Jones said. “Then I woke and decided to do it. I am truly following my dreams.” Jones previously operated a boutique in Louisville, Ky., before moving to Kansas City.
